F**cking a Thunder Storm

“Shit.” I grab the doorframe as Kellen releases another howl, and the building shakes once more.

“That’s why I called you.” Slater plants his feet wider for balance and motions out to the rain drenched roof. “Go do your thing.”

I stare at him in wide-eyed shock. “My thing?”

“Yeah, you know…” He rolls his hands together in an incomprehensible gesture.

“Are you serious?” I glance from him to the angry black clouds overhead. “Are you telling me to go fuck a thunderstorm?”

Slater’s arms fold over his chest, muscles bulging. “I don’t care how you do it, just stop him from destroying our city.”

As I watch, dark wings begin to spread from Kellen’s back, rolling clouds filled with flashes of lightning. Swearing, I yank my shirt off over my head and thrust it at Slater. “Hold this.”

With a shiver, I let my wings slip from my back. The feathers ruffle as the muscles along my spine flex in a slow flap.

Slater stares at them, his lips parted. “Are those seriously your wings?”

My teeth pull back in a hiss. “You got a problem with them?”

He lifts his hands, palms out. “Nope.”

Kicking off my clogs, I bounce on the balls of my feet. I can do this. It’s just Kellen. This is simply a bigger energy draw than normal.

Lightning splinters through the clouds once more, turning the world white, and Kellen releases a roar of welcome.

Oh, god, I’m going to die.

Kellen’s feet lift from the roof, and I sprint forward at hyper-speed, wings flapping against the gale as I launch myself into the air after him. He only makes it a foot off the roof before I attach myself to his back, skin to skin. Where our flesh meets, we crackle like fireworks. It hurts as it burrows inside me, and I struggle to remember what instinct let me absorb Torch so fast, but my mind balks, still raw from the brush with extinction.

Heavy mist peppers my skin as Kellen rises another foot into the air, barely slowed by my added weight. My wings flap, desperate to counter our ascent into the heart of the storm. I latch my mouth onto his neck, tongue against his skin to lick away the sparklers that dance across his hard muscles.

Not enough. Unlike Torch, Kellen’s energy lives on the inside of his body. Skimming the surface barely makes a dent with the storm refueling him.

My legs wrap around his waist to give me better leverage as I climb up his shoulders, twist around enough to grab his chin, and pull his head toward mine. Eyes that swirl with hurricanes meet mine, and his lips pull back to bare his teeth in a feral growl.

The storm has him in its grasp and won’t release him without a fight.

Unsure I’m capable of doing this, I swallow hard. My bones still feel brittle from being put back together, and when thunder crashes overhead, it rattles through my body, ready to tear me apart once more.

But Kellen helped me when I needed him.
